Magic: the Gathering Store events

Commander for a Cause

Do you like Commander? Join us at noon on Saturday, Feb 24th for this free event to help the homeless in our city and benefit The REACH Home right here in Rochester NY. Here’s how it works.

The event is 100% free with a donation of three items from the list below. Be sure to choose one from each column, and bring them to the store. Don’t want to go shopping for physical things? You can make a donation at the register on the day – we suggest $20 – and 100% of that donation will go to the REACH Home after the event. Don’t play Magic but want to donate something? No problem! Bring your donation to the store between 12 and 4 pm on the day. Want to help assemble backpacks? Bring your hands and a helpful attitude to the event!

Choose 1 from each section and bring to enter the event:

Slim Jims
Pop Tarts
Granola bars
Peanut butter crackers
Other small food items
Hand sanitizer
Feminine products
Tooth brush
Tooth paste
Shampoo- high need
Deodorant-high need
Other items
Hand warmers
Hand towels/Wash cloths
Please bring a package of these items (for example, a box of granola bars, not one granola bar).

Single elimination, 3-4 player pods.
After elimination, each player gets free entry into our usual commander league and all associated rewards for the week AND entered to win a cool prize (see below)

Players may donate prizes to this event at any time! Got a cool foil no one will trade for locally? Donate it to encourage more players to attend this charity tournament. However, the following prizes are donated by Just Games and guaranteed:

Last person standing will win a Commander Anthology, donated by Just Games
One lucky person who plays an additional game in the commander league after being eliminated will win a Planechase Anthology.
That’s over $300 in prizes for playing a few rounds of charity commander!
As additional prizes are donated by players or local organizations, we will post them here!

So join us at noon on Feb 24 for Commander for a Cause, and help the homeless!
