New Standard Shuffle League format – Perfect for new players or deckbuilders

This year has seen some of the best design for Magic Standard sets in years on a set-by-set basis. 2020 is looking like a really great year for Standard, so great in fact, we wanted a format that would showcase the newest sets, give a chance for folks to deckbuild, and be a perfect entry level event. Enter: Standard Shuffle, a new league format where you build a Standard deck, 2 packs at a time, from only cards in the newest set. It’s just $7 a week, we give you your first deck free, and if you’re an experienced player it’s am amazing deckbuilding challenge. We’re piloting it in December, with a full launch to follow when Theros becomes legal on January 24. Sound good? Here are the details:

Friday Night Standard Shuffle

Register at the front desk any time between 6 and 8 pm. Your first week, we hand you a deck and pair you with someone who can teach you the game if you’re new. It’s awesome for teens, for returning players, or for folks who love a challenge. You write down the contents of your decks (they’re semi random, and we want to know what cards you have). At the end of the night, we give you 2 booster packs of the newest Standard set. You open them, and can add any cards in them to your deck. When you come back the next week, you’ll register those pack contents and play again with your new deck. That happens every week, and over the course of a season of Standard Shuffle, your deck will grow and morph into a more focused, awesome gaming machine! When a new standard set comes out, we’ll start over with the new mechanics!

But wait, there’s more – as your participate, you’ll unlock special benefits and “refresh packs” to breathe new life into your deck. Because it’s a “limited” event (kind of like Sealed or Draft) all the registered cards you open in packs are “part of your pool” so you can deck build any time, in order to make a new and interesting deck from those cards. Bored after 1 game? Change it up! Lose to the same colors each week? Get a refresh pack and change your deck’s colors. Best of all, since each player has a limited pool to build from, while the deckbuilding challenge is real, the “tournament meta” doesn’t exist – so no Oko, no bannings, no nonsense. Just fun!

So build your Standard deck you just need $7 a week and a plan to enjoy yourself!
