Upcoming Painting Classes

Featured painting by Dave Vedder

Join us for a series of painting classes by veteran painter, David Vedder. David is a skill painter and will be teaching and coaching expert techniques. Classes will run on the dates below, starting at 1 pm and running roughly to 3 pm.

These classes are for anyone, but some basic level of miniature painting experience is expected. You can sign up for each class individually by clicking on the names above.

Blending Acrylic Paint

One of the biggest “level-ups” we can make on our painting journey is learning to achieve smooth blends. We will explore a number of techniques that cover almost every blending situation we will come across as painters.

Participants should bring their own brushes if possible, as well as any painting accessories one fancies (lights, wet palette, etc.) An assortment of acrylic paints will be available, but feel free to bring your own if you have a strong brand preference. A primed model will be provided, but if you have something you feel would be appropriate to follow along with of your own, feel free to bring it.

Object Source Lighting

A class on the how and why of light and its interaction with our figures, focused on Object Source Lighting (OSL). We will explore the basic physics behind a secondary light source, and combine that knowledge with technique and artistic license to achieve a powerful and beautiful effect.

Painting Faces

Most of us have one, yet painting faces can be a challenge for a number of reasons! This class will focus on the basic anatomy of the head and how that should inform our painting approach, as well as techniques we can use to get a convincing rendering of human (or non-human!) skin.

If you are brining your own paints, we will be using saturated orange, red, blue, and yellow, along with white and black.
